Arthritis and Colostrum
About Arthritis and Colostrum
Arthritis is the most common cause of disability in the United States, limiting the activities of nearly 19 million adults. The word arthritis actually means joint inflammation. The term arthritis is used to describe more than 100 rheumatic diseases and conditions that affect joints, the tissues which surround the joint and other connective tissue. The pattern, severity and location of symptoms can vary depending on the specific form of the disease. Typically, rheumatic conditions are characterized by pain and stiffness in and around one or more joints. The symptoms can develop gradually or suddenly. Rheumatoid arthritis involves autoimmunity. Colostrum, nature’s first supplement, contains components that modulate the immune system, components that regulate inflammation, and components that regenerate cartilage, bone, and other body tissues.
The Science
“PRP from colostrum can work as a regulatory substance of the thymus gland. It has been demonstrated to improve or eliminate symptomatology of both allergies and autoimmune diseases (MS, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, myasthenia gravis). PRP inhibits the overproduction of lymphocytes and T-cells and reduces the major symptoms of allergies and autoimmune disease….” — Zoltan Rona, M.D., The American Journal of Natural Medicine, March 1998
“Several colostrum components stimulate wound healing. Nucleotides, EgF, TgF, and IgF-1 stimulate skin growth and cellular growth and repair by direction action on DNA and RNA. These growth factors facilitate the healing of tissues damaged by ulcers, trauma, burns, surgery, or inflammatory disease. Colostrum’s wound-healing properties specifically benefit the skin, muscle, cartilage, bone, and nerve cells.” — Zoltan Rona, M.D.
“The ability to stimulate or suppress the immune response is highly significant. Suppressing the immune system is necessary to prevent the immune system from attacking the body itself, as in the case of autoimmune disease such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, MS, Alzheimer’s disease and allergies. Colostrum’s suppressive action may help prevent this type of activity involved in autoimmune diseases.” — Beth Ley, PhD Nutrition
“Colostrum contains a special Proline-Rich-Polypeptide (PRP) that serves as a powerful regulator of the immune system. PRP in colostrum increases the permeability of the skin vessels, which offers a regulatory activity, stimulating or suppressing the immune response.” — Staroscik
Colostrum contains interlukin-10, which reduces inflammation caused by arthritis, infection or injury whether from surgery or trauma. Colostrum contains lactoferrin, which defends against infection and cancerous tumors and is anti-inflammatory. “One of the major benefits of lactoferrin is its ability to reduce inflammation through the regulation of inflammatory cytokines such as Interleukin-1 (IL-1, Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF).” — Ley
