Lyme Disease and Colostrum
“I am one of the blessed persons who have recovered completely from Lyme disease.”
“There is hope. At the lowest point I was in bed all day, and –at times–shaking with pain. In my case a late diagnosis (5 years after infection) resulted in eight years of acute symptoms. I now regularly ride my mountain bike 30 miles and occasionally win a race event. As a healing aid colostrum has helped me to overcome Lyme symptoms and the damage caused by extensive antibiotic treatment. For those of you in the thick of the battle, keep at it, have faith that you can overcome.” – Aaron Turner
About Colostrum
Nature’s first supplement, colostrum contains components that boost immunity and also modulate the immune system. It also contains agents that promote the rapid regeneration of damaged tissues and components that are anti-inflammatory. When you were born, Mother Nature provided you with the ultimate health cocktail, colostrum. Colostrum came to your mother’s breasts before milk. Colostrum contains hundreds of healthful components that help the newborn to jumpstart the biosystems, to be protected against infection, to heal damaged tissues and stop any internal bleeding caused by the trauma of birthing, and provide other vital health benefits. Colostrum for use by adult humans is harvested from dairy cows after the calves get all they need. Bovine colostrum and human colostrum are pretty much identical, except that bovine colostrum is more concentrated. For colostrum to provide the benefits that nature designed, it has to be harvested soon after the calf is born. Early harvest, highest quality colostrum is available from Synertek Colostrum, at www.synertekcolostrum.com.
About Lyme Disease
The Lyme disease bacterium can infect several parts of the body, producing different symptoms at different times. Not all patients with Lyme disease will have all symptoms, and many of the symptoms can occur with other diseases as well. If you believe you may have Lyme disease, it is important that you consult your health care provider for proper diagnosis.
The first sign of infection is usually a circular rash called erythema migrans or EM. This rash occurs in approximately 70-80% of infected persons and begins at the site of a tick bite after a delay of 3-30 days.
Most cases of Lyme disease can be cured with antibiotics, especially if treatment is begun early in the course of illness. However, a small percentage of patients with Lyme disease have symptoms that last months to years after treatment with antibiotics. These symptoms can include muscle and joint pains, arthritis, cognitive defects, sleep disturbance, or fatigue. The cause of these symptoms is not known. There is some evidence that they result from an autoimmune response, in which a person’s immune system continues to respond even after the infection has been cleared. if that is true, colostrum’s immune modulating property may be of particular value.
The Science of Colostrum
“Colostrum contains leukocytes, lactoferrin, lysozyme, and all of the immunoglobulins: IgA, IgD, IgE, IgG, and IgM. These components together combat bacteria, viruses, and yeast. Colostrum contains cytokines, lymphokines, and proline-rich polypeptides. These components work together to initiate the immune response, and regulate the intensity and duration of it… Without optimal immune protection we are susceptible to conditions ranging from the common cold, the flu, various stages of immune deficiency, cancer and even AIDS.” — Beth Ley, PhD, COLOSTRUM: Nature’s Gift to the Immune System)
“Bovine colostrum is biologically transferable to all mammals, including humans. It is much higher in immune factors than human mother’s colostrum. Laboratory analyses of immune and growth factors from bovine colostrum are identical to those found in human colostrum, except that the levels of these factors are significantly higher in the bovine version… Immunoglobulins (A, D, E, G, and M) are the most abundant of the immune factors found in colostrum. IgG neutralizes toxins and microbes in the lymph and circulatory system. IgM destroys bacteria, while IgE and EgD are highly antiviral.” — Dr. Zoltan Rona, American Journal of Natural Medicine
“PRP, in bovine colostrum, has the same ability to regulate activity of the immune system as (do the) hormones of the thymus gland. It activates an underactive immune system, helping it move into action against disease-causing organisms.”— Drs. Staroscik et. Al., Molecular Immunology
