Crash-Proof Bones at age 64?

My hang gliding buddy Mike is a no-nonsense type of guy, who is diplomatic enough when called for, but can be as direct as a fist in the teeth if he wants to get a message across, like trying to discourage me from launching in strong wind again. “You should be dead,” he stated matter-of-factly after I crashed my hang glider last month, “I’ve seen a lot of hang glider crashes, and that was the worst I’ve ever seen. You must have really good bones not to have broken any of them.” My age possibly added some gravitas to that statement. It got me to thinking, first about getting some more hang gliding instruction, and second about Mike’s statement that I should be dead, or at least should have had broken bones. After all, my glider had bent and broken bones, aircraft grade aluminum snapped clean in two, and I hit the ground hard enough to knock me out. I had some pretty serious bruises here and there, and a contusion on my left thigh that was swollen up the size of a cantaloupe when I came to, but no broken bones. I knew that colostrum was anti-aging, and I had seen research indicating that colostrum usage increases bone density and strength, and I thought it was true, but after the crash and Mike’s comment I decided to look up the latest research on it, and it strongly supports the proposition that colostrum increases bone density and strength.*
Below are clinical studies.
The importance of lactoferrin in bone regeneration
Bovine lactoferrin improves bone mass and microstructure in ovariectomized rats via OPG/RANKL/RANK pathway.
Protective effects of bovine colostrum acid proteins on bone loss of ovariectomized rats and the ingredients identification.
Effect of bovine colostrum protein on rat bone mineral density.
Effect of a Growth Protein-Colostrum Fraction on bone development in juvenile rats.
An Anti-Aging Study
A 1990 study referenced in The New England Journal of Medicine in an article about colostrum (Bovine Colostrum Emerges as Immune System Modulator) indicated that GH, a colostrum component, may reverse some of the signs of aging, including loss of bone density.* In the study, Dr. Daniel Rudman treated 26 men between the ages of 61 and 80 with GH. Patients experienced a decrease in overall body fat (up to 14%) and an increase in bone density and lean muscle mass.* In addition, their skin was thicker and more elastic.* Rudman said the changes were equivalent to those incurred over a 10- to 20- year period of aging.”* (The American Journal of Natural Medicine, 3/1998)
